A surcharge that moves with the price of ship fuel.

In practice

Carriers publish BAF per TEU by trade lane, revised monthly or quarterly against a fuel price index. Rates quoted as all-in include it; rates quoted as basic freight plus surcharges do not. Some carriers call it FAF, EFF, or MFR.
