Shorthand for an empty container, as in 'MT return' or 'MT pick-up'.
In practice
From the sound of the letters. Used in depot and trucking instructions: MT pick-up is collecting an empty for stuffing, MT return is giving the empty back after unpacking. Not to be confused with metric tonne on weight documents.
Seen in the wild
MT return to PSA Depot 4 by Friday to avoid detention.
Watch out
MT is also Metric Tonne on packing lists and weight declarations. On a trucking instruction it means empty.
