Fuel Surcharge, Due Carrier

The airline's fuel surcharge, as it is coded in the Other Charges box of an air waybill.

In practice

MY is the IATA other-charges code for fuel surcharge and the third letter says who collects it: C for the carrier, A for the agent. So MYC is the airline's fuel surcharge and MYA is the forwarder's. It is quoted per kg of chargeable weight and revised often, frequently monthly, so a rate quoted last month is rarely the rate on today's air waybill.

Seen in the wild

Other charges: MYC 385.00, fuel at 0.55 per kg on 700 kg chargeable.

Watch out

The third letter is who collects the charge, not part of its name: billing MYC when the invoice shows MYA counts the same surcharge twice. MY here is a charge code, not the country code for Malaysia.
